With the UK officially leaving the European Union in early 2021, things are no longer the same for EU students who want to study there. You now need to apply for a special student visa called the 'Student Route' to live and study in the UK.
You can apply for a student visa to study in the UK if you meet the following requirements:
- current passport or other valid travel document
- confirmation of admission (CAS) from the university
- proof that you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course - this will vary depending on your circumstances
- written consent for your application from your financial sponsor if you have received sponsorship for your tuition fees and living expenses in the last 12 months
* The current fee for a Tier 4 "Student and Child Student - main applicant and student dependents" student visa is £348.
How long will it take to receive a response to my visa application?
You will usually receive a decision within 3 weeks. There is an option to pay extra to get a faster resolution.
If your application is successful, you will receive either:
- biometric residence permit – if you have provided your biometric information at a visa application center
- a digital immigration status that you can see and prove online - if you have used the "UK Immigration: ID Check" app.
How long can you stay on the island with a student visa? It depends entirely on the length of your studies. You can usually stay in the UK for up to 5 years.
